I work in a large manufacturing facility broken down into a few departments. My workplace is very crowded, as we have over 2,000 employees split between two shifts, as well as a number of contractors coming in and out. We also have a very diverse workplace, with people all over the world that work in our plant.



Job Requirements & Duties

  • Make sure everybody is working safe, successfully completing their job, and following all food safety policies
  • Figure out processing schedules, and create plans to continuously improve quality and efficiency
  • Inspect the quality and safety of products at different stages to make sure all products are up to standard 
  • Help to present the company’s brand and maintain the corporate image
  • Set up equipment and ensure that all the jobs are manned
  • Complete production and maintenance reports
  • Give performance feedback to employees and management

Education & Training

  • A university degree in operations management or food engineering would be beneficial for this career.
  • On the job training is also key in this role as each processing plant is quite unique!

Job Outlook

    The outlook for food production supervisors is considered to be good to excellent; there will likely be more job openings than there are people to fill them.
