Important Skills

Active Listening

I usually start a project by sitting down with customers to understand what they’re hoping to create. Active listening skills help me really grasp their challenges and ideas so I can design a system that’s perfect for them.

Creativity & Innovation

One of the coolest parts of my job is coming up with innovative solutions to very specific challenges. I use my knowledge to design systems that make peoples' lives and jobs easier.

Planning

Once I’ve got a building designed, I have to create a plan to get it built. This includes scheduling workers, planning for materials, and figuring out time constraints.

Detail-Oriented

When designing a building, it can be easy to get caught up in the big picture. It’s very important for me to also go through all the tiny details that will be obvious in the day-to-day use of the building.
