In A Nutshell

I am responsible for making sure that our fish are in conditions that will let them be as healthy and fast-growing as possible.

I feed fish and keep tanks and systems clean. 

I monitor and record data about water quality, growth rates, and how much feed the fish are eating.

Job Requirements & Duties

  • Maintain filtration and plumbing
  • Take water samples and test for water health
  • Examine samples and specimen under a microscope
  • Help with harvesting orders when necessary
  • Work in a team to sort fish into new tanks
  • Keep detailed records of observations and patterns

Education & Training

  • No post-secondary education is absolutely required; however, a degree or diploma in aquaculture technology is beneficial.

Because fish are so sensitive to changes in the world around them, it's extremely important to have an eye for detail and notice every little change before it becomes a problem 

Analytical Thinking

If the fish are behaving differently, or the water quality changes suddenly, it takes a cool head to analyze the situation and figure out what’s wrong so it can be fixed  

Physical

A lot of the work we do can be physically demanding, like hauling crates of fish or carrying buckets of feed. Being comfortable with physical work is a must  

Mechanical

Modern aquaculture relies on pumps, siphons, filters, probes, and more, so being comfortable working with mechanical equipment is a good skill to have
