Job Requirements & Duties

  • Develop and test recipes using fresh ingredients and decide how to present each dish
  • Plan menus and make sure the kitchen has all the ingredients needed from farms and suppliers
  • Lead and coordinate kitchen staff to prepare meals efficiently and safely
  • Train new staff to follow food safety rules and meet high-quality cooking standards
  • Keep the kitchen and equipment clean, safe, and ready for cooking
  • Interact with customers to make sure meals are enjoyable and meet expectations

Education & Training

  • To become a cook, you usually need a trade certificate or similar training, along with lots of hands-on experience in the kitchen. A food handler certificate is also important to ensure safe food preparation.
